July 2, 2004 saw:

Derrick discovered that he could fit into the shoes Carla got for her stint as Linda in Savage in Limbo and decided to take a walk to visit Daren while wearing them.

Lovely:-)

Liz experimenting with different ways to cook.

Liz making sure that Daren is well fed. I think he was talking to his mom on the phone at the time, which made it all the more fitting.

Beautiful Carla in her window.

Jess looks like she's yelling at us, but I think she was just talking to us from the window below.

Derrick likes his apartment.

the view from my window, looking to the right.

That night Derrick heard about a Capoeira 'show' and a bunch of us decided to ride down to see it. (Though my tire was flat, so I ended up riding on the back of derrick's bike, and felt gloriously like a dutch 12 year old.) We ended up missing the first one, but there was going to be a second game later in the evening, so we decided to hang out and wait. There was a really awesome web structure plaything next door, so waiting was hardly an issue.

There was also a gathering for some sort of rollerblading rally in that lot. Everyone in our group thought this person with the boom box strapped to their back was pretty cool. Shortly after I snapped this pic, they all suddenly left, silently, en masse.

I've always said that I look like an evil possessed baby doll in this photo, largely because of the eyeliner I was wearing for my stint as Denise Savage in Savage in Limbo , which I intentionally put on messily...and then couldn't get off. Stupid liquid eyeliner.

Tracy, Nicole S, and Alyson watch the rest of us act like fools at the top.

CARLA!
hsss!

Derrick channelling his inner sloth

After a while it started to rain. We all headed inside at that point, and someone (I think Alyson) broke out some fake tattoos. Nicole wanted to put one on her neck, but had no water to do so...below is Alyson's solution, much to Nicole's surprise.

But it worked pretty well!

Lovely.

A shot of us stopped on a bridge in the rain. It was a fun night.

July 1, 2004 saw:

Another (though still not the most!) brilliant sunset out my bedroom window, after a long and exciting day at the workshop. If I'm not mistaken, this was our first day of Karlmaria De Boeck's Le Coq class....It's all about the protomovement!
my hurried notes from this day say:

outer movements = showing(indicating)
inner movements = how we really react & move (being)
...
It's not "I am falling," rather "I falling."

I also have a quote:
"Margaret is how you say, liney?"

That was Karelmaria, who claimed to only know 70 english words, attempting to explain how to adapt to differences in physicality. I think he was trying to say that she was tall and thin.

July 1, 2009 saw:

Our little family heading over for a playdate at Colin's house with Kate, Nadia and Mia (and of course, all their Mamas.)

Liz, sitting in her window overlooking the Princengracht.

June 29, 2009 saw:

We returned from bringing Peggy to the airport in Nashville to find that Kelly had made her own version of the rainforest cafe's Volcano for us all to share.

I like her addition of the orange flower instead of the sparkler. I also enjoyed the mint chocolate chip ice cream and real whipped cream.

Hooray for Kelly!

June 27, 2004 saw:

My pre-baby belly...but oddly still in a playground.

The big kids setting bad examples. (Notice the onlooker behind the pole?)

Carla befriended that little kid during this impromptu visit, and spent the rest of the trip talking about "[her] Small Blonde Child."

Derrick was too tall for this toy, as his toes will tell you.

Daren, Derrick and Carla, in a cube, the bottom of which was filled with water...

watch out, Carla!!!

Ahhhhh!

Carla holding the hand f her small blonde child.

boys will be boys, I guess?

I should note that this was the day that the four of us went on an epic biking adventure, and we were all so proud of ourselves for having set off without a destination (or even a map!), broached new territory, and found this awesome park way outside of town. We wore ourselves out riding the whole way home, and felt smug as the exhaustion set in. Later, of course, we would learn that we had essentially ridden in a really big, wobbly loopy circle, and that park way outside of town was actually just a few blocks from our apartments. Ah well. guess that's what we get for being smug. We still had fun, anyway.

Westerpark is a really beautiful, awesome park, full of art (above) and wildlife (below).

Once we did make it back, I went to some more shows at the festival (feeling exhausted, but happy) and had a lot of fun . Nicole S kept frenetically changing seats when we first got there, and then declared grandly: "I need to have complete control over my Vista!" :-)

June 27, 2009 saw:

Fun in the backyard elephant pool with my family!

Cadence loved the water.

The Johnson Girls in the pool. L-R Kelly, Peggy, Cadence, Mom.

Then we warmed up, had a nap, and headed to the Lost River Cave to visit the butterfly park.

after a short walk through the woods, we headed back to the visitors' center, where we panned for gemstones.

All in all, it was a super awesome day. :-)
